In this article, we will go over the basics of the PaperCut printer management software.
What is PaperCut?
Papercut is a printer management application that controls printers for our company. In day to day use you may never use it, its functions are largely automatic, but there may be a moment when you need to interface with it.
Where to find it?
Papercut is found in the system tray/notification area by the clock.
What do i do with it?
As stated earlier, you may never have to interface with it, however, if a printer is not showing up on your system it may be time to interact with the icon.
If you want to see the list of available printers, do the following:
1. Find the Papercut icon in the notification area.
2. Right click on the icon, select View My Printers and left click.
3. This will open the PaperCut Print Deploy Client.
Here you can see your installed printers. in the example above you can see the name of the printer and its status.
If you do not see printers in this list, next to the header 'My Printers' there is a link, Refresh. Click this and it will refresh the list of printers.
This option is also available by the following steps:
1. Right click the PaperCut icon in the system tray/notification area.
2. Click on Refresh my Printers Now.
3. Click on View My Printers and see if printers have been added to your list. Note that this may only apply if Papercut was freshly installed on your system or if you requested to have access to a certain printer.
The option, 'Add Printers' is not a feature we have enabled at this time and you will not use it.
If you need to set a printer as a default printer see this article.
